Amanda, what a wonderful post! For a long time, my "center" was very elusive. I've begun to find it, and for me - that has been through quiet morning bike rides. I'm sad, because winter is coming - and I'm probably done until next spring. I'll have to find some other way to find that quiet place for me. Anyway, loved your writing here today (as usual).

Steve - I like the way you said your values are "10,000 feet down inside you." I think that's a perfect way to imagine a center spot. Thanks!

Nice work Amanda. This reminded me of a great moment, I had in NYC recently - just wonderful.

What I've learned is that your personal values are the things that reside at your centre. Your values are the things that are 10,000 feet down inside you, right at your core, and are the things in yourself, others and world that are most important to you. These are the things you're built from and these are the things that truly matter to you.

Learn what they are and you can use them and honour them every single day. That's a surefire way to stay connected with 'you', and it's the only way that the real you can live in the world.

Thanks Amanda.

Evelyn - Meditation does have wonderful benefits, even if it seems like you are not doing much. I think that's the point!

Vered - Yeah, silence can be very relaxing.

Bonnie - Definitely, there are a lot of things that can bring us back into focus.

John - Thanks and your welcome :)

Hi Amanda,
I was having one of those "lost" days---
until I read your article.
It instantly brought me back to a place of peace and purpose.
Thanks,
John

Centering yourself is key to staying in the present and keeping your focus. Maybe it's walking or running or playing music or meditation. Anyway you choose to center yourself that works for you is the best approach.

Sitting in silence... I don't think I've ever done that. I'm always looking for something to do, for some kind of distraction.

Interesting post. Thank you.

Meditation is something that I do almost every day. Far from being a waste of time, it is an investment in clarity, peace, and developing a connection to my inner Being. I most certainly agree with your suggestion about finding ourselves through sitting in Silence.
